Prescription Types
You will see two types of prescription sports glasses at iOptix. Here you will find some information on the differences, advantages and disadvantages for both types. One thing is the same though iOptix use polycarbonate shatterproof lenses for all outer lenses in our sunglasses. The sunglasses we supply with prescription lenses have some or all of the following options:
Insert Rx.
These glasses have a separate frame which contain the prescription lenses, this frame is smaller than the main glasses frame and is specific to the style of glasses purchased. They can also be called clip-in’s. It is easily removable and refitted. This is the most economical way of having several lens tints for various conditions. We use Adidas performance prescription inserts, Rudy Project prescription inserts, Bolle prescription inserts and also a universal prescription insert in some of our ski goggles. We also offer a dive mask prescription insert for complex prescriptions. Prescription inserts are also called Insert Rx or Rx inserts. Prescription inserts can often accommodate higher or more complex prescriptions than direct glaze frames.
The insert is often visible if using light or none mirrored lenses in the outer frame. These can also be more prone to fogging as you have twice the surfaces and often air does not pass between the two so freely.
Direct Rx.
These glasses accept the prescription lens directly into the frame so have one set of lenses. This is generally a more expensive option but often gives better performance and a lower weight. If the lenses are interchangeable you can also have several sets of prescription lenses glazed to your requirements in terms of tints and prescription. Prescription inserts can be used in sunglasses, diving masks and ski goggles.
